Throughout the Naruto anime series, several characters experienced tragic moments during battles that cost them parts of their bodies, particularly their hands.

1. Jiraiya

Jiraiya lost his left arm during his battle against Pain.

In this battle, Jiraiya teamed up with the two Sage Toads to trap three of Pain’s bodies in a Genjutsu. The plan was successful, and the three Pains were immobilized and rendered powerless. As a former student, Pain never expected Jiraiya to possess such a high-level Genjutsu skill.

Jiraiya seized the moment to remind Pain of one of his old teachings: never let your guard down against an opponent. With unwavering resolve, Jiraiya drove his sword into the bodies of the three Pains caught in the Genjutsu, killing them.

Believing he had won the battle, Jiraiya turned and began walking away confidently, leaving the lifeless bodies of the three Pains behind him. In that moment, he even gave the two Sage Toads permission to return home and rest after exhausting themselves by singing the Genjutsu melody.

Unexpectedly, one of Pain’s other bodies appeared behind Jiraiya. In a chilling turn, Pain echoed Jiraiya’s own words back at him: “Never let your guard down against an opponent.”

Pain launched a devastating attack that struck Jiraiya with immense force. His body was flung across the battlefield, crashing through a concrete wall, and as a result of the blow, Jiraiya’s left arm was severed.
