6. Mirio Togata, the Potential Successor of One For All

This story began when All Might fought against All For One. Although All Might emerged victorious, he sustained severe injuries. Half of his respiratory organs were damaged, his stomach was destroyed, and his body had to undergo multiple surgeries. As a result, All Might’s body became frail and weakened.

He could no longer use his power for extended periods and was only able to perform his duties as a hero for three hours a day. This situation worried Nighteye, All Might’s sidekick at the time, who urged All Might to retire while he was still seen as a legend.

Nezu, Gran Torino, Recovery Girl, and Nighteye—those privy to the secret of One For All—agreed to advise All Might to immediately choose the next successor of One For All.

Nezu, the principal of U.A. High School, then gave a recommendation to All Might regarding the next potential successor of One For All: Mirio Togata. According to Nezu, even though Mirio’s academic grades were not exceptional, he possessed a high level of charisma. His presence could bring joy to those around him. Despite his poor academic performance, Mirio’s cheerful smile never faded. To Nezu, Mirio Togata perfectly embodied All Might’s vision of the ideal hero.

In fact, Nighteye’s primary reason for mentoring Mirio was his belief that Mirio was highly deserving of inheriting One For All. Moreover, because Mirio always followed and trusted Nighteye’s guidance, Nighteye unknowingly came to view him as his most prized student.

However, before All Might could meet Mirio Togata, he crossed paths with Midoriya instead. All Might later realized that if he had not encountered Midoriya, Mirio Togata would have had a strong chance of becoming the successor of One For All.
