3. Konohamaru Disguises Himself as Naruto During a Movie Shoot
When Konohamaru entered the Hokage’s office to report the results of his mission, he was puzzled to see Naruto panicking while staring at a laptop. Naruto explained that he had been invited to appear as a guest star in the popular ninja movie Kagemasa. Konohamaru was excited to hear the news and admitted he couldn’t wait to see Naruto on the big screen.
However, Naruto revealed the problem he was facing: he had already taken leave for a family vacation thanks to Himawari winning a hot springs trip from a lottery. Unfortunately, the movie shoot’s schedule conflicted with his vacation plans, and the director insisted that Naruto perform a Rasengan in the final scene.
Thankfully, Konohamaru volunteered to take Naruto’s place for the Kagemasa movie shoot since Konohamaru was also capable of using Rasengan. Naruto felt greatly relieved by Konohamaru’s decision to take on the role of the Hokage, freeing him from the burden of figuring out how to apologize to Himawari—a worry that still lingered due to his lingering trauma from her Tenketsu and Juken strike.
The main reason Konohamaru disguised himself as Naruto in the film was to showcase the greatness of the Seventh Hokage to the younger generation who might not be familiar with him.
Konohamaru met with the producer and director of Kagemasa. Before the filming began, he was not required to use Henge no Jutsu to mimic Naruto’s appearance. Instead, he was simply given Naruto’s signature whisker-like makeup on his cheeks. During filming, he repeatedly stumbled over his lines and was shocked to see that the actor playing Shikamaru looked nothing like the real Shikamaru.
Even though Konohamaru felt that the filming process was strange and far from optimal, the assistant director explained that the new producer of Kagemasa no longer relied on the actors’ abilities or on-location shoots. Instead, the production prioritized the use of green screens and a CGI team to create the special effects.
With this technology, even an actor who didn’t resemble Shikamaru could be edited to look exactly like the real Shikamaru. Additionally, Konohamaru’s frequent line errors could be corrected through editing to make his pronunciation more precise.
Thanks to the collaboration between the assistant director, who wasn’t satisfied with the green screen method, and Konohamaru, who wanted to give his best as the Hokage, the director and staff managed to shoot some scenes on-location.
However, their unauthorized actions led the producer to fire the director and the crew. Despite being dismissed, the director was pleased to have had the chance to film on-location again after such a long time, and the cameraman managed to capture exceptional footage as a final farewell.
A few days after the firing, the assistant director was taken hostage by three robbers at a bank. The hostage situation was broadcast live on Konoha’s television network. Upon learning about this, Konohamaru rushed to the scene to rescue the assistant director.
During the rescue, Konohamaru defeated two of the robbers with ease. However, his Hokage outfit caught the public’s attention, and he became a headline sensation as “The Hokage Cosplayer” who fought robbers at the scene.
The director and cameraman, who were present at the location, seized the opportunity. They quickly grabbed the news camera that was live-streaming the incident and used it to film a scene for the Kagemasa movie in real-time, turning the actual event into a dramatic moment for the film.
In the midst of the intense situation, one of the robbers threatened to detonate the area using explosive tags. Just then, Kagemasa arrived and punched the robber, knocking him down. However, the robber still had control over the explosive tags.
Realizing the danger, Konohamaru swiftly threw the explosive tags into the air and neutralized them using Rasengan. The director and cameraman captured the dramatic scene perfectly, featuring Konohamaru, disguised as Naruto, teaming up with Kagemasa to defeat the robbers and save the assistant director.
After Konohamaru eliminated the explosive threat, the actor playing the fake Shikamaru remarked, “How troublesome,” imitating the real Shikamaru’s signature phrase. Even so, Konohamaru still felt that the actor didn’t truly resemble Shikamaru in either appearance or aura.
Impressed by the incredible live broadcast, the producer ultimately reversed his decision and reinstated the director and staff. He even praised them, along with the actors, for executing an outstanding and action-packed shoot.
