2. Makima Hadn’t Trained Denji as a Public Devil Hunter

After receiving a report that Division 4 had been trapped for days in a hotel due to a Devil who wanted Denji’s heart, Makima began to realize the dangerous threats looming over Denji. The Devil even offered a contract to release Division 4, on the condition that they eliminate Denji.

In response, Makima decided to take a business trip via train from Tokyo to Kyoto, intending to seek assistance from the Kyoto officials to protect Denji.

However, the journey was marred by tragedy. A group of Yakuza launched a shooting spree targeting all Devil Hunter Division members in Tokyo. The attack killed many members, while some survivors chose to resign.

Even Makima, who was traveling on the train to Kyoto, became a target of the Yakuza’s gunfire. Despite this, Makima managed to defeat the Yakuza with her extraordinary abilities. After the incident, Makima was appointed as the new leader of the Special Division Unit 4.

Makima later discovered that the masterminds behind the attack were Katana Man and Sawatari Akane, who were assigned by the Gun Devil to steal Denji’s heart. To counter this threat, Makima decided to have Denji and Power train under Kishibe, a mentor renowned for his harsh training methods. Makima’s main goal was to strengthen the new members of Division 4, especially because Denji had become the Gun Devil’s primary target.

#2 The second reason Chainsaw Man lost to Katana Man:

Denji lost due to his lack of experience and training. When Denji was first recruited as a Public Devil Hunter, Makima didn’t immediately send him for training under Kishibe. Instead, the still-amateur Denji was directly assigned to carry out Devil extermination missions with Division 4, leaving him unprepared to face serious threats like Katana Man.
