8. Sakura Becomes a Burden by Failing to Stop Madara From Obtaining Two Rinnegan Eyes
After combining the power of Naruto’s Nine-Tails transformation and Sasuke’s Perfect Susano’o to defeat Obito, who was then the Jinchuriki of the Ten-Tails, the Allied Shinobi Forces joined forces to extract the tailed beasts from Obito’s body.
Realizing his sins, Obito sought redemption by using the Gedo Rinne Tensei no Jutsu to revive all those who had died in the war. However, his plan was thwarted when Black Zetsu took control of his body and used the technique to revive Madara in his perfect form.
Once Madara was fully revived, he summoned the Gedo Statue. With just one Rinnegan, Madara demonstrated his overwhelming power by using Limbo Hengoku, swiftly defeating the nine tailed beasts. He then sealed all nine into the Gedo Statue. As a result, Naruto, the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, was left on the brink of death after Kurama was forcibly extracted from him.
To save Naruto, Kurama instructed Gaara on how Minato could transfer half of his Nine-Tails Chakra into Naruto. Gaara carried Sakura on a sand cloud to ensure Naruto survived long enough to reach Minato for the transfer.
When they arrived, they found Minato and Kakashi facing off against Madara and Obito. As Minato prepared to transfer his Nine-Tails Chakra into Naruto, Black Zetsu intervened, stealing the chakra. Fortunately, Obito regained control of his body, preventing Black Zetsu from delivering the chakra to Madara.
Madara, unwilling to let Obito succeed in saving Naruto, tried to stop Obito from teleporting to another dimension to treat Naruto. However, with Kakashi’s assistance in doubling the speed of Kamui, both Obito and Naruto were successfully transported to another dimension, with Sakura accompanying them to heal Naruto. In this alternate dimension, Obito successfully transferred Minato’s Nine-Tails Chakra to Naruto, saving his life.
Despite becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki and absorbing the Shinju Tree’s power, Madara struggled against Naruto and Sasuke, who had gained extraordinary abilities from the Sage of Six Paths. Using only one Rinnegan, Madara found himself outmatched. Even with his Limbo Clone, an invisible projection in a parallel dimension, Madara’s abilities were countered. Naruto could sense the clone’s presence, and Sasuke could pinpoint its location, leaving Madara increasingly desperate.
In the alternate dimension, Obito instructed Sakura to destroy his left eye, which contained a Rinnegan. He admitted that he could no longer fully resist Black Zetsu’s control. Obito warned Sakura that if Black Zetsu took over, it would steal the Rinnegan and deliver it to Madara.
Obito explained the catastrophic consequences: if Madara obtained both Rinnegan, he would become invincible, capable of unleashing the Rinnegan’s true destructive power.
Meanwhile, Madara, aiming to retrieve the Rinnegan, escaped his battle with Naruto and Sasuke. He began by stealing Kakashi’s Sharingan, which he used to enter Obito’s dimension. Once inside, Madara forcibly took Obito’s left-eye Rinnegan and replaced it with Kakashi’s stolen Sharingan. This left Obito with both of his original Sharingan, while Madara emerged from the dimension fully equipped with two Rinnegan.
Reuniting with Team 7—Kakashi, Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke—Madara demonstrated his newfound strength. Overconfident in her Byakugou Jutsu, Sakura attempted a direct attack on Madara. Her punch was effortlessly blocked by Madara’s Limbo Clone, leaving her confused and shocked as she could not see the entity intercepting her blow.
Taking advantage of Sakura’s vulnerability, Madara impaled her with his Gudoudama staff. This forced Naruto and Sasuke to step in and save Sakura once again, further highlighting the recurring burden she placed on her teammates.
# The Reason Sakura Became a Burden for Failing to Destroy the Rinnegan and Allowing Madara to Possess Both Rinnegan Eyes
Due to Sakura’s hesitation and delay in destroying the Rinnegan in Obito’s left eye, the situation worsened significantly. Sakura narrowly escaped death when Madara attacked her with his Gudoudama staff. Fortunately, Obito managed to save her just in time by transporting her out of the alternate dimension.
Additionally, Sakura’s overconfidence in her abilities led her to recklessly attack Madara without fully understanding his capabilities. As a result, she fell victim to another Gudoudama staff attack. Although her Byakugou Jutsu automatically healed her wounds and prevented fatal injuries, her actions only complicated the situation.
Consequently, Sakura repeatedly became the “rescue project” for Naruto and Sasuke, who might as well consider starting an emergency service called “Sakura Rescue Squad” given how often they had to intervene to save her from danger.
Sakura’s failure to destroy Obito’s Rinnegan ultimately allowed Madara to obtain both Rinnegan eyes. With both Rinnegan in his possession, Madara unlocked the full power of the Rinnegan, drastically escalating the stakes. Naruto and Sasuke, who had previously contended with a single Limbo Clone, now faced four Limbo Clones. This critical misstep by Sakura severely complicated the battle and placed the team at an even greater disadvantage.
Madara then unleashed Chibaku Tensei, summoning dozens of massive rocks into the air and dropping them to the ground, causing widespread devastation and massive earthquakes. Naruto quickly responded by hurling Bijudama Rasen Shuriken to destroy the falling boulders, while Sasuke soared into the air using Susano’o and cleaved the rocks with his sword to protect the land below.
While Naruto and Sasuke focused on countering the relentless Chibaku Tensei assault, Madara seized the opportunity to activate Mugen Tsukuyomi. This jutsu trapped all living beings on Earth in an illusory dream world, binding their bodies to the roots of the Shinju Tree through Jukai Kotan.
Fortunately, the protective wings of Sasuke’s Susano’o shielded Team 7—Kakashi, Sakura, Naruto, and Sasuke—from the blinding light of Mugen Tsukuyomi that engulfed the entire Earth.
