2. Nanami Kento Once Worked an Office Job
After realizing that the world of Jujutsu often forced companions to sacrifice their lives for others, Nanami decided to pursue an office job after graduating from university. He wanted to focus on accumulating as much money as possible before turning 40. With that money, he planned to travel to countries with lower living costs and live a comfortable life.
After two years of working at a securities firm, Nanami became a senior employee responsible for training new hires on the company’s and clients’ profit priorities. This included using shady tactics to convince clients to buy stocks that might not yield profits, all to keep their attention on the 24-hour stock market.
One day, while shopping at a bakery near his office, Nanami noticed a cursed spirit clinging to the baker’s shoulder. However, that day, Nanami chose to ignore it because he didn’t want to reveal his identity as a former Jujutsu sorcerer.
A few days later, Nanami returned to the bakery and unexpectedly shared his frustrations with the baker. He spoke about his job, which essentially made the rich even richer by taking their money for the company’s benefit.
Nanami believed that no one would care if he left the company, but if the bakery closed down, those who loved its bread would be saddened. He mentioned how he once felt upset when his go-to supermarket stopped selling his favorite bread. Nanami felt conflicted—despite the higher pay, he found himself trapped in the cycle of mundane human life. Meanwhile, the baker was puzzled by Nanami’s musings.
Nanami then instructed the baker to step closer and exorcised the cursed spirit from his shoulder. The baker instantly felt healthier and repeatedly thanked Nanami out of joy. At that moment, Nanami decided to quit his office job. He called Gojo to inform him of his return to the Jujutsu world, but Gojo simply laughed at Nanami’s announcement.
When Gojo asked Nanami and Yuji to introduce themselves to each other, Yuji was surprised to learn that Nanami had previously worked an office job instead of pursuing Jujutsu sorcery from the beginning.
Nanami explained that during his time in university, he realized that being a Jujutsu sorcerer felt meaningless. However, after experiencing the corporate world, he also realized that being an office worker was equally pointless. As both paths seemed futile, Nanami chose the one he preferred—being a Jujutsu sorcerer.
