6. Nanami Kento’s Deep Concern for His Comrades

#1

Although Nanami and Yuji were assigned to the same mission to uncover the cursed spirit responsible for the deaths of three high school students in the theater, Nanami chose to face Mahito’s hideout alone. He didn’t want to put Yuji, a novice Jujutsu Sorcerer, in danger. During the battle, Nanami suffered a serious abdominal injury after Mahito touched his soul in an attempt to turn him into a transfigured human. Luckily, Nanami survived because the cursed energy protecting his body inadvertently shielded his soul.

Yuji was enraged upon learning about Nanami’s injury and frustrated that Nanami had excluded him from the mission, feeling that Nanami still saw him as a burden. However, Nanami stood firm, knowing that Yuji felt guilty for having exorcised monsters that had once been human due to Mahito’s manipulations. Nanami sternly told Yuji that there would come a time when he would be ready to kill—but not yet.

When Yuji learned of a Curtain appearing at Satsukawa High School, he called Nanami, informing him that he was heading there because he was worried about Junpei, a student at the school. Despite Nanami’s orders for Yuji to stay away, he knew Yuji wouldn’t listen. Concerned that Yuji might face Mahito, Nanami, who was busy exorcising transfigured humans at Mahito’s hideout, assigned the task to Ino instead.

Fortunately, Nanami arrived just in time to save Yuji. Using his Ratio Technique: 7:3, Nanami successfully blocked Mahito’s attack that was aimed at Yuji.

When the Curtain appeared at Satsukawa High School, Yuji was shocked to see Junpei attempting to harm Shota, a classmate. A battle ensued as Junpei, consumed by anger, wanted to kill his bully. Yuji soon learned that Junpei’s motivation stemmed from his belief that Shota had placed a curse at his home, which led to his mother’s death.

After Mahito cursed Junpei’s house and manipulated Junpei into embracing darkness, Mahito finally confronted Yuji and revealed his true nature. He then turned Junpei into a transfigured human. Mahito’s ultimate goal was for Sukuna to take over Yuji’s body. Desperate, Yuji pleaded with Sukuna to heal Junpei, even offering to do anything in return. However, Sukuna coldly rejected Yuji’s plea, and Junpei tragically passed away, rendering Mahito’s plan a failure.

Following the incident, Gojo asked Nanami whether he had informed Yuji that Sukuna’s finger had been found at Junpei’s house, attracting the cursed spirit that killed Junpei’s mother, Nagi. Knowing that Yuji believed humans should die a natural death, Nanami told Gojo that he had kept the information from Yuji to prevent him from blaming himself unnecessarily.

Nanami also questioned Gojo’s decision to bring Yuji back to Jujutsu High, given that Yuji was supposed to be dead. He worried about Yuji’s safety, fearing that the Jujutsu elders might once again try to eliminate him.

When Nanami found Ijichi lying on the street, severely wounded with a slash across his back, he saw Nobara and Nitta being tortured by an enemy. Nanami identified Shigemo as the mastermind behind the chaos and unleashed his fury by attacking him relentlessly.

After rescuing Nobara and Nitta, Nanami reassured them that Ijichi was okay. However, when Nobara insisted on joining him to fight the enemies in Shibuya, Nanami firmly declined. He knew that Nobara was a lower-grade sorcerer and was worried she would get injured and become a burden during the battle.

When Nanami, Maki, and Naobito were heading to Shibuya Station to deal with the situation there, Naobito, aware that Maki was the lowest-ranked sorcerer among them, suggested she return home. Nanami agreed with Naobito’s suggestion.

However, Maki confidently reassured Nanami that she was more useful than Naobito, who was drunk. Doubt crept into Nanami’s mind upon realizing that Naobito was indeed intoxicated. Worried for both Naobito and Maki’s safety, Nanami regretted not choosing to handle the situation alone.

When Nanami, Maki, and Naobito became trapped in Dagon’s Domain Expansion, the curse spirit launched an onslaught of giant Shikigami fish. Even in this perilous moment, Nanami remained concerned for Maki’s safety. He offered her tips on how to confront Dagon’s Shikigami despite her lack of cursed energy.

However, Nanami momentarily lost focus, and the giant Shikigami bit him. The attack left Nanami gravely injured, yet his resolve to protect his allies remained unshaken.
