Watch Blue Lock Episode 2

1. JFU Meeting

At a meeting held at the JFU headquarters, Anri showed a newspaper featuring an article about Japan’s national team’s defeat and their consistent failure to advance to the World Cup quarterfinals. Anri informed the JFU members that Japan would never win the World Cup as long as the JFU elites only viewed football as a money-making business.

Buratsuta, the JFU advisor, reminded Anri that she would have to take responsibility if the Blue Lock project ended in failure. With unwavering confidence, Anri replied that she trusted Ego Jinpachi to revolutionize Japan’s national team playing style and create a remarkable player who could lead them to a World Cup victory.

2. Ego Jinpachi Eliminates Kira Ryosuke

After Kira collapsed helplessly on the floor, hit by Isagi’s shot, Ego officially eliminated him. However, Kira could not accept that a talented player like him had to lose his career because of a silly game of tag that, in his opinion, had nothing to do with football.

Ego told Kira that Room Z’s dimensions were the same as a penalty area. If Kira couldn’t handle his duties within the goal-scoring zone, then he didn’t deserve to be a striker.

Ego emphasized that in Blue Lock, everything was related to football. When participants were being chased, they needed to understand off-the-ball movement, tactics, and proper positioning. When they were chasing, they needed excellent dribbling skills and the ability to make precise shots.

Ego explained that the reason he set the challenge for two minutes was that it represented the average total time a player had possession of the ball during a match. Ego then highlighted Kira’s critical mistake—wasting the last second when the ball hit him. If Kira had reacted quickly, he could have kicked the ball toward Igaguri, who was down beside him, and saved himself.

Ego asked Kira to imagine a scenario where the ball hit him in the penalty box in the dying seconds of a match. Would he stand frozen like a statue, letting the golden opportunity slip away? Or would he take the shot and potentially score a goal? Since Kira failed to understand the responsibility of a striker to fight until the very end, Ego eliminated him from Blue Lock. Kira, crushed, was left devastated as his grand dream of playing for Japan’s national team came to an end.
