7. Anri and Ego
Ego was cooking instant noodles when Anri scolded him, asking him to sweep the room and do his own laundry. Ego nonchalantly replied that his contract didn’t require him to do chores unrelated to soccer.
Anri then said that it was time to report to the JFU and asked whether the first Blue Lock selection was going well. While pouring seasoning into his noodles, Ego replied, “Everything’s going smoothly. Now it’s time to add some seasoning to the participants.”
8. Isagi Yoichi Becomes the Top Ranking in Team Z
Team Z was training on the soccer field. Isagi was seen failing to score as his shot hit the goalpost. Raichi quickly mocked Isagi, calling him pathetic and claiming that Isagi’s goal against Team Y was nothing but pure luck.
While resting on the sidelines and drinking water, Isagi began to reflect. He realized that all the participants in Team Z were indeed better than him and had excellent stamina. Even though Isagi now knew that his weapon was “Spatial Awareness” and his ability to sense goal-scoring opportunities, he still didn’t know when exactly to use it.
Isagi also felt guilty for angering Chigiri with his careless words, and during today’s training, he felt like a burden to the team. He didn’t want to stay in this position any longer, nor did he want his career to end with just one lucky goal.
Suddenly, Ego appeared on the television screen, eating his instant noodles. He greeted Team Z and announced that the sixth match in Building 5 had just concluded. The result showed that only Team V had earned 6 points, while the other four teams had only accumulated 3 points. Ego then updated the Blue Lock rankings, surprising everyone—including Isagi.
Isagi Yoichi, who had previously ranked 274, was now at the top of Team Z with a new position of 265.
9. Ego Jinpachi’s Advice on a Striker’s Weapon
Ego told Team Z that discovering their weapon is the primary requirement to become a striker. After that, the weapon must be honed and enhanced until it becomes outstanding. He used Messi as an example, highlighting his agile dribbling and exceptional left-footed shot. Messi’s unique weapon made him one of the top strikers in the world. However, Ego emphasized that copying Messi wouldn’t make someone’s weapon shine.
Ego reminded them that each individual has a different weapon, and the method to sharpen it also varies. He asked the participants to consider what elements they should combine with their weapon to evolve it from turning zero into one. Ego stressed the importance of finding their own playing style and making their weapon stand out. He also warned that if talent isn’t improved, it will eventually become worthless.
