4. Marry as Emma’s Mentor as a Ninja

One night, Emma was on an undercover mission. She entered an old man’s room and eliminated him. However, Emma suddenly froze when a knife was pressed against her neck by a mysterious figure from behind. The mysterious figure reminded Emma of the advice that as a Ninja, even the slightest lapse could lead to death. The figure then released the knife from Emma’s neck. Emma turned around and realized that the mysterious figure was Marry, who had been tasked with supervising her. Marry declared that Emma had passed the Ninja exam and made her her partner.

The missions Emma carried out with Marry were always successful. They managed to steal server data, acquire classified documents, and eliminate their targets. Emma admired Marry’s calm demeanor during missions. For this reason, Emma regarded Marry as the embodiment of the ideal Ninja. Emma also knew that there were three top-tier Ninjas: Higan, Marry, and Zai. One of them would be chosen to lead the Organization. The elders entrusted their dream of living with pride as Shinobi and dedicating their lives to protecting Japan to those three.

Emma and Marry became so close that they often spent time together. Marry shared with Emma that she had grown up alongside Higan and Zai. The three of them had trained together since childhood. Emma felt insecure and confessed that she could never befriend Zai and Higan. Marry then revealed Zai and Higan’s childish sides, which reassured Emma.

There was a time when Emma confided in Marry about her anxieties as a Ninja. She admitted that she was afraid of forming close bonds with others, as it could lead to emotions. Ninja ethics prohibited having emotions, as they were considered a fatal flaw during war. At the time, Marry chose not to respond to Emma’s concerns.

As a mentor, Marry taught Emma her secret Jutsu. Marry stabbed a rabbit, and as soon as she withdrew the knife, the rabbit immediately ran off. Marry explained to Emma that she could make someone appear dead by inducing a state of suspended animation. Marry was confident that Emma would eventually have a reason to use this secret Jutsu. Returning to the present, Emma told Higan that her time with Marry was the happiest moment of her life.

5. Emma’s Face Story

Marry once asked Emma why she always wore a mask. Emma told Marry that when she was a child, her face was disfigured in an accident. The damage was so severe that her parents couldn’t bear to look at her and chose to leave her. Afterward, the Organization adopted Emma. The elders stated that Emma’s face no longer resembled that of a dignified human and instructed her to become a Ninja who could transform into anyone. Emma felt inspired by the elders’ words and eventually developed a fondness for the Ninja Disguise Technique.

Marry then asked for permission to remove Emma’s mask. Although hesitant, Emma agreed. Marry commented that Emma’s real face was beautiful. However, Emma dismissed Marry’s compliment, feeling that her scarred face was hideous. Marry then told Emma that as a Ninja, she should take pride in her face.

Returning to the present, Emma told Higan that at that moment, she truly believed Marry’s words. Emma felt that Marry didn’t only value her as a Ninja but also respected her as a human being.

6. Master Yamaji Requests the Organization to Train Foreign Ninjas

Master Yamaji transported a group of foreign Ninjas by plane to Japan. Yamaji even requested that the organization’s Ninjas teach martial arts and Ninja sword techniques to the foreign Ninjas. Mamat and Emma observed the training session. Mamat murmured to Emma that a true Ninja always imbues their soul into their sword, whereas the foreign Ninjas merely regarded swords as tools for killing. As a result, Mamat felt disheartened, questioning why Yamaji was willing to collaborate with these foreign Ninjas.

Emma then reported to Yamaji that the foreign Ninja training had proceeded according to procedure. Yamaji asked Emma what it meant to be a Ninja. Emma replied that a Ninja’s duty was to protect Japan’s peace. However, Emma fell silent when Yamaji further asked if Ninjas would cease to exist if Japan disappeared.

Later, Emma met with Marry to express her discontent over the drastic changes in the organization following Master Yamaji’s arrival along with the foreign Ninja forces. Emma hoped that Marry would become the new leader of the organization so things could return to normal. Marry, however, confessed that she no longer belonged in the organization because she had violated the Ninja code of ethics. Emma was even more shocked when Marry admitted that she was in love with Higan and was carrying his child.
